All paid current members of the Greater Burgess Community Association have the opportunity to vote for the new slate of Board members. The Election meeting will be held at the BURGESS COMMUNITY CENTER at 10299 SC 707 in Burgess. Meeting starts promptly at 6:30 with voting at 6:45

Richard Knox III Richard is a lifelong resident of the Burgess community and a current member of the Board of Directors. With over 25 years of experience running his own construction business, he has worked closely with countless residents and gained a deep understanding of the area’s needs.  Richard is deeply concerned about the rapid growth in Burgess and its impact on vital infrastructure—including roads, schools, and stormwater management. He believes that proactive planning and community involvement are essential to preserving the quality of life for all residents.  His hands-on experience and long-standing commitment to Burgess make him a strong advocate for responsible development and thoughtful solutions.


 

Bob Ziegler– Bob has proudly called the Burgess community home for over a decade. As a former Vice President of the Board and the current Chairman of the Parks and Open Spaces Committee, he has consistently championed initiatives that enhance the quality of life for residents. Bob has played a key role in many of the Greater Burgess Community Association’s accomplishments, working closely with local groups to foster collaboration and progress. His strong relationships with Horry County government entities and the Councilmen for Burgess have been vital in advancing community priorities and ensuring our voices are heard.Bob remains committed to preserving the natural beauty of Burgess while supporting thoughtful development that benefits all residents.


 

Chris Valcourt– Chris has been a dedicated resident of the Burgess Community for 21 years. His leadership within the Blackmoor Property Owners Association—as President, Treasurer, and Director—reflects his long-standing commitment to community service. Over the years, Chris has actively participated in projects aimed at preserving the natural beauty and historical character of Burgess. He’s worked closely with government officials to advocate for responsible development that honors the area’s heritage. Chris is deeply concerned about unchecked growth and the County’s lack of attention to critical infrastructure needs. He believes that thoughtful planning and stronger oversight are essential to maintaining the quality of life for Burgess residents. Chris is ready to continue serving with integrity and purpose, ensuring that the community’s voice is heard and respected.


 

Steve Theiss-Since moving to the area in 2018, I’ve been deeply committed to the responsible growth and well-being of the Burgess community. As the current Treasurer on the Board, I’ve worked diligently to ensure our neighborhood thrives while preserving its character. I led efforts to expand buffer zones along the 707 corridor, helping protect our environment and maintain the area’s charm. I spearheaded the development of the Association’s new website, improving communication and transparency for all residents. I’ve collaborated with numerous neighborhoods and county officials to ensure that future projects consider critical factors like traffic flow, stormwater management, and school capacity.I’m passionate about continuing this work and advocating for thoughtful development that reflects the values and needs of our community.


 

Howard McPherson– Howard currently serves as a Director on the Board and brings a wealth of experience from his background as a developer of multi-family homes and townhomes in New Jersey. Now a local businessman and owner of residential rentals within the Burgess community, Howard remains deeply invested in the area’s growth and sustainability. His dual perspective as both a developer and business owner allows him to offer valuable insights into responsible development, housing needs, and economic vitality. Howard is committed to using his expertise to support thoughtful planning of the Burgess community.
